Scrubbing the Sea Bear
Arthur Ransome admired the Norwegian writer/adventurer Erling Tambs, and agreed
to introduce his book, The Cruise of the Teddy [Cape, 1933], about a cruise to the
South Pacific. Tambs' boat, the Teddy appears in Great Northern?
as the Sea Bear, both are Norwegian pilot cutters, though Sea
Bear benefitted from the addition of cross-trees to give Peggy and Captain
Flint a perch from which to view the bird-man.
